LTC Quote Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Type Mismatch error on starting LTC Quote

If you have just installed LTC Quote and are unable to start it because you see a Type Mismatch notice when you click the icon, this could be due to your date format setting in Windows.

To check and fix this, click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
Choose Regional Settings and click the Date tab.
Set the Short date style = M/d/yyyy
Set Long date style = dddd, MMMM dd,yyyy
Click OK

In many cases this solves the Type Mismatch problem and you will be able to run LTC Quote.

Problems printing to a local printer

Some users printing to a printer directly connected to their computer have seen a vertical 1-2" bar down the center of their screen and error messages when they clicked the Print button.

If you have this problem, make sure you have the current version of the LTC Quote program file. This can be downloaded from the Quote update page. Make sure LTC Quote is not running or on your Taskbar before downloading.

After logging in, click the link: "Latest program updates". Then click the link: "Download QUOTEXE.EXE now". If asked, you can run the file from its current location. If you choose to save it to disk, you can download it to your Desktop, then run QUOTEXE.EXE by double- clicking its Desktop icon.

In most cases this update solves the printing problem. You may need to restart your computer to print from LTC Quote.

Problem printing to a networked printer

Printing to a networked printer may fail, depending on the network name of the printer.

The Problem: LTC Quote is a 16-bit program that does not support long file names or path names including space characters.

Solution - rename the network printer:

It is helpful to first determine that the problem is due to the network printer. If possible, verify that you can print to a local printer, one attached directly to your computer. If not, you may have a different printer problem.

To check the network printer name, open Network Neighborhood, an icon on your desktop. Click on the computer to which the printer is attached. Look at the printer name. If it is longer than 8 characters or has spaces, LTC Quote will probably not print to it.

The name of the printer should be changed on the computer it is connected to. Use that computer to rename it to a name with 8 characters or less and no spaces.

Then on the computer from which you are trying to print, again check Network Neighborhood to verify that the name of the printer on the other computer has changed.

Now click Start, Settings, Printers and highlight the network printer you are trying to use.

Right-click the printer icon and choose Properties from the menu. Choose Details from the tabs at the top of the window.

Look at the entry under "Print to the following port:". It should have the form \\ComputerID\NewName where ComputerID is the network name of the computer attached to the printer, and NewName is the new short name assigned to the printer.

If not, click the Add Port button and add the path to the new computer name. When finished, the port displayed should have the new printer name.

Click OK to save the setting.

You should now be able to print from LTC Quote to the network printer. If you are unable to follow these instructions or if the above steps don't allow you to print, please contact your network administrator for further assistance.
